Capt. James William Bondurant (1835-1867) served in The Jeff Davis (Alabama) Artillery. He originally enlisted as a sergeant but was promoted to battery commander, fighting in Maryland. By the Atlanta Campaign (1864), he was Lt. Col. of Artillery on Gen. Johnston’s staff and had been chief of artillery in the commands of Generals D.H. Hill and J.B. Hood. He died of yellow fever in New Orleans in 1867.
