Mrs. E.A. Cunningham was a prominent property owner in Camden, whose name is frequently linked with local antebellum real estate. Before the war, she owned Fairhaven, but sold it in 1857. She owned a vast estate tract of roughly 4,090 acres in Kershaw County, known locally as “Verdier Land” on Gum Swamp Creek. Like many elite antebellum landowners in South Carolina, her world collapsed economically as a result of the war. Her vast estate was forcibly auctioned off in 1872 to satisfy her debt.
